GiftAway is a free community website where neighbours share things instead of throwing them away. Everything on GiftAway is free: no buying, no selling, no bidding.
What you can share
- Household items. Furniture, clothes, books, toys, kitchenware, appliances and anything else that is still useful but no longer needed at home.
- Leftover food. Surplus cooked meals, groceries or festival food that would otherwise be wasted, shared with people nearby.
Why we started
Every home has things sitting unused, and every neighbourhood has someone who could use them. Meanwhile, good food gets thrown away every day. GiftAway connects the two. Giving things away declutters your home, helps a neighbour, and keeps usable items out of the bin.
How it works
- Post a listing. Add a photo, a short description and your general area.
- Get in touch. Someone nearby sends you a message through the site’s built-in chat.
- Hand it over. Agree a time and place, and pass it on, free of charge.
Listings are meant for people within about 5 km, so pickups stay quick and easy.
Community guidelines
- Everything must be given away free of charge.
- Only offer items that are safe and usable.
- Share food only if it is fresh and safely stored, and describe it honestly (ingredients, when it was made).
- Meet in a public, well-lit place where possible, and never share personal details you’re not comfortable with.
- Be kind and respectful. We remove listings that break these rules.
